What is the most rewarding part of your job?
As an owner, the most rewarding part of my job is when I can pass on my passion for fencing to my team members. I can send the crew out to install a quality fence without me being there telling them how to do it.
How is fencing in your part of the country different than other parts of the USA?
Hedge posts and low carbon wire is the go-to for all the farmers out here in southern Iowa. We are slowly progressing and implementing high tensile fence, but it is a hard sell in my neck of the woods.
What is your favorite tool to build fence?
We used to hand drive every staple we put in. Now we use a cordless fence stapler and the Stockade ST400i is hands down my favorite tool.
What is your favorite type of fence to install, and why?
I really enjoy putting up a good-quality fixed knot woven wire fence with a single or double strand of barbed wire on top. You are able to show some really nice craftsmanship with different knots.
When you aren’t installing fence, what are your hobbies?
I love spending time with my family, but if I’m not doing that I’m doing something that deals with fences. I’ve built a network of friends in the fencing community that keeps everything interesting. I enjoy researching fence-related items and continuing to learn with the industry. During the rest of my spare time, I like to spend it at the local gun shop target shooting.
